South Pacific Islands

Are there any two more romantic and exotic words in the English language than “South Pacific”? When it comes to travelling, many of us happily summon up images of turquoise lagoons, bountiful fruits and seafood and locals who are gracious and sincerely welcoming.

Broadly speaking, the area we call the South Pacific includes Tahiti/French Polynesia, Fiji, the Cook Islands, Samoa and American Samoa, and Tonga. In all the region spans some 17 million square kilometers and is home to over 3,000 islands. As well as stunning scenery, the South Pacific is appealing for its wide array of activities. Swim, surf, snorkel, scuba dive or paddle board in the crystal clear turquoise waters. Try your hand at fishing – for your own dinner, perhaps! Admire humpback whales and spinner dolphins, and make sure your camera is always at the ready for shots of dazzling blue waters, platters of tropical fruits and seafood, and smiling faces. And even if you are happy to head off exploring the Caribbean Islands or the Greek Isles on your own, the vastness – and the varying cultures and costs – of the region require the sure hand of an experienced travel advisor.

There are many options open to you:

– Make a one-country stop en-route to, say, Australia or New Zealand to break the journey (and get acclimatised to the time difference)

– Go island-hopping and visit several destinations within the South Pacific while staying at luxurious resorts or your own private villa.

– Go small-ship cruising such as on the legendary Paul Gauguin through Tahiti or sailing aboard a Wind Star ship.  These small ships make it easy to visit the smallest of islands or inlets.

– Or take a larger ship on a longer itinerary visiting several islands that often include Australia, New Zealand and even SouthEast Asia.

Each style has its own charms, but however you choose to travel your South Pacific Specialist can counsel on how to make the most of your time so that you aren’t spending your vacation in transit
